About
Departed Golfers from Pueblo County Memorial
The idea of having a Golf tournament to honor departed golfers came about after the loss of Joe "Joe T" Taravella, Silvia Fransua, and other local Pueblo golfers over the last few years. They spent most of their golfing years at Elmwood Golf Course. We felt that it was important for their legacy to be carried on in some fashion, thus the idea of the Departed Golfer from Pueblo County Memorial was born. However, this monument would not only represent the recently departed golfers but any departed golfer male or female who loved the game of golf and impacted our community in so many positive ways. Several golfers have passed and family members would love to honor them by placing their names on this memorial.
We are very excited about this unique project and have never seen this type of monument at any of the courses that we have visited. Elmwood Golf Course Pro, Randy Bregar, has already selected the perfect placement for this monument near the putting green where it can be easily seen heading to the first tee and then coming off the front nine and going to the back nine or just sitting on the patio taking in the scenery. It is thrilling to see the support that we already have for this worthy cause. We have had many families already approach us to get their beloved golfer's name added to the memorial.
We hosted the first annual memorial golf tournament for departed golfers on June 19, 2022. It was a very successful fundraiser. We had thirty-two teams participate, and they are excited to come back in the future. We received outstanding, positive comments from the golf pro, golf course workers, volunteers and of course the participants.
It is also our plan to provide scholarships to deserving high school students. It is important to provide support to the youth of our community as a way of paying forward the kindnesses and funds that we receive for this project and to honor the departed golfers who have given to the community over the years.
